Ms. Rekha Sharma is presently the Senior Vice president, VLCC Health Care Limited at VLCC Health Care Limited. She has over 28 years of service as a Chief dietician at AIIMS, New Delhi preceded by 3 years of service at Boston Hospital, USA.
Ms. Rekha Sharma is also currently the Secretary of the diabetes Foundation (India). She is an active member of many national and international organizations including American Dietetic Association, Nutrition Society of India, Indian Dietetic Association, Nutrition Foundation of India and the Research Society for the study of diabetes in India. She is a Governing body member of India Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. She also holds the prestigious membership with the National Human Rights Commission in the Health core committee.
Ms. Rekha Sharma frequently visits many institutes abroad as a visiting scientist. Most notable among them are Beth Israel Hospital, Boston USA, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard University, Boston USA, VA Hospital, Boston USA, John Hopkins Medical School, Baltimore USA. (WHO fellow), Joslin Day Care Center, Boston USA. (WHO Fellow) and the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota USA
As an academician she has participated in various symposia organized by Diabetic Self Care Foundation, Research Society for the study of diabetes, Academy of Hospital Administration, Indian Medical Association and many others.
Over the last two decades, she has published ten books on the topic of diet management that have been widely appreciated. She has also written extensively on Healthy Diet and Exercise among normal and special populations. In addition she has published more than 60 Publications in National and International journals.
Her contribution to the field of dietetics have been honored through many awards and citations. She is the recipient of 'Appreciation Certificate' as Participating faculty member in a Diabetic Update for Consultants and General Practitioners by Association of Physicians of Baroda, 1985; W.H.O Fellow in the field of Nutrition, 1997 Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, Baltimore, U.S.A. Joslin diabetes Center, Boston, U.S.A.; "Commendable service" certificate as a teacher and speaker at a structured course on diabetes Mellitus held by Indian Medical Academy of Medical Specialties, 'Dec 1997 and "Felicitation for Professional Achievements", by Department of Foods and Nutrition, Lady Irwin College, during their celebration of Glorious 40 Years, January 2000.
