After your child’s first birthday, mental and behavioral development takes place at a fast pace. Physical (motor and self-care skills), social, emotional, cognitive and language development skills improve with his age. Now are the naughtiest days of his life. He starts learning to ‘learn’ and explore almost all that comes his way. A toddler may put anything and everything in his mouth, crawl along the floor and put himself in danger. You need be extra vigilant and ensure that his surroundings are safe. As he grows, he learns to walk, talk, eat and tries to become more independent by copying you. At times, he may be fussy about food, clothing or for no reason at all. There may be times when you need to keep your child with a baby-sitter or send him to play-school, separate his bed and develop a sleeping routine. Many issues now crop up: finding a good and trust-worthy help, how to choose a play-school, what to pack for lunch, how to separate your child’s bed and so on.

However, some children may seem to lag behind in achieving a particular milestone (for their age) when compared to others. Parents of such children become a worried lot. If you are a parent of such a “special” kid, there’s no reason to fret! You need to understand that every child is different and will develop at his own pace. But it is important to talk to your child’s pediatrician and inform about his unresponsive or hyperactive behavior. Find solace, as we get you accurate and practical information in this section about the developmental milestones of a preschooler (age by age), how to encourage young kids to eat, their nutritional needs, making them love vegetables and many more.
