Your changing body Your gums may become swollen, inflamed and tend to bleed easily because of pregnancy hormones around week 23. You may notice that your gums bleed every time you brush. If left untreated it can lead to severe form of gum diseases which increases a woman’s risk of having a Premature Baby. Fortunately, these problems are completely avoidable by practicing a routine dental care.
At week 24, as your skin on your belly and breast stretches, you may feel itchy on these areas. Your skin may become dry and stretch marks may begin to appear. Your eyes may also be sensitive and dry during pregnancy. Your doctor may conduct a Glucose screening for detecting gestational Diabetes between this week and 28 weeks.
Your growing baby Your baby weighs around 500 g and probably measures about 29 cm from crown to heel in week 23. Your baby’s lungs are maturing to help prepare for breathing. Lanuga or fine hair that covers your baby’s body may darken, which can be observed on an Ultrasound. If you were to deliver this week, thanks to the increasing research and knowledge in the field of fetal care, your baby has a good chance of survival with the right medical care. Now your baby’s senses are getting better and he/she may be more aware of the sounds outside your Uterus.
At week 24, your baby weighs 600 g and measures around 30 cm long from crown to heel. Your baby’s lungs are more developed and complex at this stage. Your baby’s taste buds are also developing.
