The fourteenth week of pregnancy

Your changing body
By around this time, the Uterus becomes large enough to push out the stomach a bit and the top of the Uterus is positioned above your pubic bone. Because many of you the symptoms of first Trimester like nausea have waned, your appetite improves and you find yourself gorging more than earlier.

There are still many more months to come before your little wonder arrives, but your body has already been gearing up for breastfeeding that will commence soon after birth. Your breasts might start producing colostrums or premilk.

As sleep gets better and good amount of energy stocks in, you may start inspiring yourself to take up light intensity activities with fellow expectant mums.

You can join the company of others and start with some low impact aerobics, swimming or even stroll down the lane or join a group that instructs pregnant mums about the activities that they can take up to remain active and fit during and post pregnancy. This will also help you to share and bond over conversations with others.

Your growing baby
During the 14th week, your baby’s body begins to grow in proportion to her head. The little neck starts to grow in length and her chin becomes more prominent. Your little baby is quite actively kicking and swimming within your body.

Your baby is now receiving all her nutrition directly from the Placenta. By the end of week 14, your baby will be of about length 8.7 cm and weigh around 43 g. As the brain’s functioning gets more complex, your baby would start displaying different expressions. He or she can now grimace, frown and squint!

Your little one will try to wriggle away when your tummy is poked. Ultra fine minute strands of soft hair (lanugo) begin to cover your baby’s thin skin, which will usually disappear before birth. The liver now starts producing bile and the Kidneys produce urine which is excreted into the Amniotic Fluid.

Your baby’s hands and feet have become more flexible and he can grasp and even suck his thumb!
