My Baby's Development
|
After having happily treaded the challenges experienced during those 9 months, your happiness is doubled when you hold your newborn in your arms. But you seem to be pondering over these lines that goes in to say– “Every day would be a new challenge”.
Isn’t it? With different changes taking place in your baby’s physical, emotional & cognitive development, you would be confronted with these very often:-
|
What to expect from your baby at every stage? Whether it is normal? What facts you need to be commonly aware of as a new parent? When you need to be a little cautious or its time now to head to the pediatrician?

Baby Monthly Development (0 - 3 months) What can a new mum expect:-
|
Physical Development
|
- Your baby’s movements up to 3 months of age are uncontrolled. Sucking, sneezing swallowing, throwing their arms out, crying when they hear a noise are some of the reflex movements they resort to for survival.
- At one month:- Light, strips, dots, patterns seems to hold the attention of most babies. So they might turn their head towards something that is brightly lit or colorful. Although they are not able to organize those little images into meaningful shapes, they can still remain glued to them at a closer range. You may even find her smiling or watching you through her blurry vision while being fed.

|
- Between one and three months:- Your baby is strong enough to raise her head and chest when lying on stomach. Stretches legs out and kicks when lying on stomach or back, often brings hand to his mouth with sucking and grasping reflexes developing better. From making joyful sounds like those little‘’coos’’while enjoying his bath to taking swipes at any moving object with hands, your baby has learnt a lot.

| Social, Emotional, Language And Cognitive Development |
Babies as compared to adults can relate and respond only to ‘’feelings’’. They lack the ability to think at such a tiny age. They feel good when they are fed well and cry when they are hungry or startled with that loud noise. After having being comforted well in your womb, this alienated world comes out as a new surprise to them but they still don’t know that you are there for them. They slowly begin to recognize human faces around 4 to 6 weeks. As they become familiar, they develop a social smile trying to grasp sounds and voices which they hear around them. Nappy changing and bathing can become a good time for you and your baby to bond over a small session, where in simply by talking or singing to them, you help them acquire the required skills for speech and language development in the coming years.
|
- Try not putting a dummy into his mouth as it will deter her from imitating sounds that could be helpful in later speech development.
- You baby can now recognize familiar objects and people at a distance, babbles, begins to use hands and eyes in coordination.
- Watching Out For These Signs Is Equally Important
- Your baby should be able to look at your face while you talk to her, an average by around 6 to 8 weeks. Smiling around four weeks and able to laugh by about three months. However, in some cases it might be that you are not able to relate to her problems. So inspite being cuddled, she cries with a high pitched squeal. This however should not be ignored.
- She seems to be completely disinterested in her surroundings, no response to startling noises. She is even unable to lift her head when put on tummy, doesn’t kicks, moves or uses her both arms and legs that should be happening around two months.
- Fingers always held with a tight stiff and other than crying doesn’t makes any other sounds which most babies generally take up to around two months.

Every child is unique in its own little way, so variations will exist in every aspect of his life. It is quite normal to see two babies grow at different pace but if you observe that your baby’s growth is deviating largely from the standard norms, then it’s wise enough to take help from the baby’s healthcare personnel.
